Advanced Open Water
About our course
Available through PADI and SDI
The Advanced Open Water Diver course allows you to sample different diving activities. It consists of self-study and open water dives. The self-study portion is completed on your own time once you purchase the student course packet. We then meet with you to review the knowledge you gained from the materials and apply it during open water dives.
The Advanced Open Water Diver course requires 4-7 dives. Deep and Underwater Navigation dives are required to be completed for the certification. For the other dives, we have you do Night, Search & Rescue/Recovery, and Buoyancy (dependent on the agency you choose to certify through). We will meet sometime prior to the dive weekend to go over the coursework and complete the final exam. We’ll then head to a couple of the local open water dive sites to complete the dives.
Once you complete this course you will be:
1. Qualified to dive to depths greater than 60 feet within the limits of your training and experience
2. Able to book dives on boats that may have turned you away because you didn’t have an Advanced certification
3. Have a broader understanding of different diving activities
4. Continue your dive training – AOW is required for Rescue Diver training; each Adventure dive also counts as the first dive towards a Specialty rating
Prior to the course
Please visit Student Packets, download and complete all forms relevant to the course you are enrolled in (Adobe Reader required). Please write out Yes or No for each condition on the Medical Questionnaire. If you answer Yes to any of the questions, you must obtain a doctor’s release prior to beginning any in-water training.
Our schedule
Our Advanced Open Water Diver course is tailored to you. We work a schedule out with you and teach at your speed. In our course you get as much one-on-one time as you need. The course is personalized to you! We can do this because we limit our class sizes to no more than 6 student divers. You won’t get that kind of attention at a dive shop without paying extra money for a private or semi-private course. All of our courses are private or semi-private!
During our check out dives, we will spend a few minutes checking off any required skills. Then the rest of the time we’ll be diving.
Come learn about different scuba diving activities with us!

The PADI Adventure Diver certification is available for anyone who completes at least 3 adventure dives but not all 5. Or if you are just interested in trying out some different types of diving but are not interested in deep or navigation, we can set up an Adventures in Diving course.
